Junior Purchaser
Job Summary
We are a fast-growing brand in the aftermarket automotive world and are seeking a motivated Junior Purchaser to work closely with the Production, Quality, and Receiving departments to ensure the right parts show up at the right time. This is a crucial role responsible for creating and placing purchase orders, communicating with our vendors, analyzing potential shortages, requesting quotes, and assisting with internal movement/receiving of products.
Junior Purchaser Reports to: Purchasing Manager
Full-Time Position | Monday-Friday, 7am-4pm
At Facility Location \ NOT A REMOTE POSITION
Responsibilities
- Contact suppliers to request quotes, compare quotes and negotiate for optimal pricing and terms.
- Purchase materials and products according to specifications and ensure timely delivery of goods.
- Build and sustain effective relationships with suppliers and vendors by maintaining clear communication and setting consistent expectations. Occasionally meet with key vendors to strengthen supplier relations.
- Monitor inventory levels and update the ERP system with accurate supplier information, lead times, and delivery dates to ensure a steady supply of critical components without interruption.
- Coordinate with department supervisors to maintain a safety stock of shop consumables and packaging materials.
- Generate and manage purchase orders with precision, ensuring deliveries are timely and complete, and schedule freight pick-ups.
- Take ownership of purchasing processes and suggest improvements and collaborate with relevant teams to enhance operational efficiency and provide constructive feedback
- Participate actively in quality inspection meetings to address and resolve issues with non-conforming materials, communicating details to suppliers on an as-needed basis
- Coordinate with relevant internal departments to ensure prompt receipt and inspection of goods, while managing payment approval or holds of those goods.
- Communicate effectively and timely with suppliers to prioritize favorable payment and shipping terms, resolve any quality, freight, or payment discrepancies.
- Conduct thorough research at the request of Engineering to identify new suppliers or services that can fulfil expansion goals or new product requirements.
Required Experience and Skills
- High school diploma
- 1 or more years’ experience in any purchasing, material planning, or related role in manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Proficiency in procurement software, and Microsoft Office Suite
- High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and drive
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills, and the ability to write concise professional emails
- Able to stand and walk throughout the scheduled 8-hour work shift
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, such as business, supply chain management, logistics, etc.
- General understanding of manufacturing types, processes and raw materials
