The Vice President of Domestic Supply Chain is responsible for leading the end-to-end domestic (US) operations and consolidating our company’s four domestic facilities, requiring onsite management over our primary Atlanta, Georgia Metropolitan Area facility. These operations include but are not limited to, including but not limited to, the ongoing pack/ship operation, final assembly operation (food and food adjacent items), transportation, logistics, continuous improvement program, and financials to provide world-class service to our customers while achieving annual goals, operational metrics, and the overall financial plan. The VP of Domestic Supply Chain is also responsible for our fulfillment and logistics strategy, including determining the mix of in-house and 3PL operations to drive cost efficiencies and operational excellence. This highly visible and collaborative role will interface with teams in International Supply Chain, Demand Planning, Marketing, Product, Legal, and Finance in the overall planning and execution of its roles and responsibilities.
WITHIN 90 DAYS OF EMPLOYMENT
Create, implement, and successfully deliver a consolidated US “final assembly” footprint:
- Identify and facilitate the successful lease of a new final assembly facility adjacent to the East Coast facility (or the viability of migrating final assembly to a 3rd-party turnkey solution).
- Lead the advance final assembly of finished goods at existing final assembly facilities to allow up to three months of downtime related to the migration of operations.
- Lead the completion of any necessary renovation and FDA (or similar) certifications of the new final assembly facility.
Create, implement, and successfully deliver a consolidated distribution footprint:
- Lead the in-flight consolidation and migration of our West Coast warehouse/self-fulfillment facility into the existing East Coast operations.
- Expand the existing self-fulfillment capabilities at our East Coast facility to allow for additional volume and scale over time.
- Working with the People & Culture Team, identify opportunities for further investment in the existing team and/or talent gaps that need to be addressed.
Assume ownership of and accountability for the domestic supply chain PnL, including:
- All domestic supply chain operations (leases, utilities, supplies, labor, etc).
- All small parcel contracts – including existing obligations or volume guarantees.
HOW YOU WILL BE MEASURED
This position is responsible for and will be measured against its ability to lead a team in the on-time, on-plan, on-budget receipt of in-bound goods, final assembly of self-made products, and the ultimate fulfillment of products to consumers and 3rd-party services (FBA, WFS, etc.), both physically and digitally. Leading the digital transformation and real-time recordkeeping is essential to end-to-end visibility across the global supply chain.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct and indirect leadership for the domestic supply chain leadership team and over 150 in-direct Team Members in the planning and execution of short, medium and long-term operational plans for all areas of responsibility
- Participate on the Tech & Operations Leadership Team as the subject matter expert for all areas of responsibility, including leading the preparation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly business updates as appropriate/required.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and drive a culture of service (for internal clients and external customers) throughout all areas of responsibility.
- Develop and implement a long-term vision for the future of our company’s domestic supply chain organization by collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve physical and digital inventory accuracy, ensuring a robust cycle count program is in place and that the business can successfully pass internal and external audits annually.
- Lead a team to ensure that key daily operational goals and metrics for fulfillment operations are on target and within defined service level agreements (SLAs).
- Prepare, forecast, and manage the distribution center and transportation budgets to achieve key business unit OKRs.
- Negotiate key contracts and manage third-party partnerships to minimize expenses while receiving world-class service (i.e., transportation, material handling, repair, and equipment maintenance).
- Develop and foster a culture of forward-thinking and planning to stay ahead of current business growth and/or future acquisitions.
- Oversee safety and OSHA compliance programs, including preparing mandatory reporting and agency responses with appropriate internal partners.
- Lead a variety of continuous improvement (i.e, Kaizen, lean, six-sigma) programs to refine operations and improve the efficiency of the operation; evaluate potential improvements and define business cases, including return-on-investment (ROI) for any expenditure.
- Develop and propose capital expenditure requests and budgets for fulfillment operations, facility improvements and related operations.
Essential Experience:
- Minimum of fifteen (15) to twenty (20) years in fulfillment/distribution management.
- Demonstrated experience with direct-to-consumer fulfillment and logistics operations.
- Demonstrated experience working with Amazon (FBA) and Walmart (WFS) fulfillment operations.
- Demonstrated experience leading final assembly or manufacturing operations.
- Minimum of ten (10) years leading and developing exempt-level professionals in a distribution or fulfillment environment.
- Minimum of five (5) years working with and negotiating FTL/LTL carriers and home delivery carriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL, USPS) contracts.
- Demonstrated experience managing remote locations (including international sites) and/or operations in excess of 500K square feet (individually or combined).
- Demonstrated proficiency in common WMS (warehouse management systems); with a strong preference for exposure to Fishbowl and/or RFSmart.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in a closely related discipline (business, operations management, engineering)
- Demonstrated proficiency in advanced MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) skills.
- Demonstrated analytic and financial literacy as it applies to a fulfillment environment and the broader operation of the business.
- Demonstrated experience working with the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and similar regulatory agencies in a final assembly and/or manufacturing environment.
- Outstanding written and oral communication with a focus on executive-level presentations, correspondence, and materials.
- Working knowledge and technical proficiency with warehouse management systems and legacy platforms; experience leading WMS selection and implementation processes is highly desired.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years in negotiating freight contracts
- MBA or additional directly related educational experience, including a strong track record of ongoing professional development or industry leadership.
